Iowa State’s defense has few holes to fill heading into 2021, but the Cyclones are still bringing in reinforcements hoping to make an immediate impact.

Villanova graduate transfer safety Jaquan Amos announced his commitment to Matt Campbell’s program on Monday. The Philadelphia native will graduate in May then join the Cyclones shortly after.

Amos recorded more than 50 tackles each of his last two seasons with the Wildcats, including a team-high 57 in 2018. During his three years at Villanova, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound defensive back tallied 147 total tackles, 25 passes defended, eight interceptions, six tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Amos will join an Iowa State safety group that likely returns as much production as any group in the country. Despite losing three-year starter Lawrence White, three-time first-team All-Big 12 selection Greg Eisworth and the Big 12’s co-defensive freshman of the year in 2020, Isheem Young, will be expected to be one of the best safety duos in college football.
