Tyrese Hunter nominated for McDonald’s All-American game

Iowa State’s top signee for the 2021 recruiting cycle is in the running for a spot on the McDonald’s All-American team.

Wisconsin guard Tyrese Hunter was named as one of the Midwest nominees for the nation’s most prestigious high school All-American team when the list was released on Thursday. It was also announced there will not be a traditional McDonald’s All-American game for the second consecutive year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hunter has solidified himself as one of the nation’s top point guard prospects during his senior season at Racine St. Catherines while leading the team to a 15-1 record so far in the regular season.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound four-star prospect is averaging 20.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.8 steals per game while shooting 53 percent from the field, 62 percent from the free throw line and 35 percent from 3-point range.

As it currently stands, Hunter is considered the No. 5 point guard in the 2021 recruiting class and the No. 34 player in the class overall.

Marcus Fizer in 1997 is the only Cyclone men’s basketball player to ever make the final McDonald’s All-American team roster.
